Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Psychosocial Recovery Coach?
A psychosocial recovery coach supports people with psychosocial disability to take more control of their lives and better manage day-to-day challenges. At Chameleon Psychosocial Recovery, this means walking alongside you to explore goals, build confidence, and navigate supports in a way that works for you.
More information about our services, including a detailed NDIS description, can be found here.
How is a Recovery Coach different from a Support Coordinator?
While both roles help you get the most out of your NDIS plan, a psychosocial recovery coach brings additional mental health expertise and focuses more on your day-to-day wellbeing, capacity building, and personal recovery journey.
A support coordinator typically focuses more on the NDIS-facing tasks - things like plan reviews, report gathering, and managing service agreements. A psychosocial recovery coach can do these things too, but if a support coordinator is involved it typically falls more within their role.
When working together, we complement each other well:
Your support coordinator helps keep the admin and paperwork side of things running smoothly.
Your recovery coach focuses on the on-the-ground work - implementing supports, exploring your goals, building confidence, and navigating everyday challenges.
It's a team approach, with you at the centre.
Who can access a Recovery Coach through the NDIS?
Recovery coaching is available to NDIS participants with psychosocial disability who have funding for “Support Coordination – Psychosocial Recovery Coach” in their plan.
What does a typical session look like?
Sessions are tailored to your needs and preferences. They might involve:
Working on personal goals
Navigating services or systems
Talking through challenges
Exploring strategies for recovery
Sessions can take place in the community, at your home, over the phone, or via video.
How often can we meet?
That depends on your plan and what works best for you. Some people prefer weekly catch-ups, while others check in fortnightly or monthly. We’ll work together to create a rhythm that suits you.
Can you help me connect with other supports?
Yes. Whether it’s linking in with mental health services, advocacy, housing support, or community groups, part of the role is helping you access the right supports for your situation.
What areas do you service?
Chameleon Psychosocial Recovery currently supports people across Perth. If you're unsure whether we can work together, feel free to get in touch and ask.
How much does it cost to work with Chameleon PSYCHOsOcIAL Recovery?

If you have funding for Support Coordination – Psychosocial Recovery Coach in your NDIS plan (line item 07_101_0106_6_3), this service is fully covered, meaning there are no out-of-pocket costs for you.
Sessions are charged based on the time spent working directly with you, as well as some necessary behind-the-scenes work (e.g. goal planning, report writing, or liaising with your support team — always in your best interest).
You'll receive a Service Agreement outlining all costs and expectations before we begin. Invoices are submitted through the NDIS portal or to your plan manager, depending on how your funding is managed. You're welcome to review any charges at any time - transparency is important to us.
What if I want to change or stop supports?
You have the right to change your supports at any time. We’ll always aim to make any transition smooth and respectful. You’re in control of your recovery journey.
